Engineering student design projects in a rehabilitation setting.

چکیده
E ngineering students in '.:heir senior year are anxious to translate theory into application. Most engineering curricula require a design course that accords senior students this practical experience, and design course faculty strive to offer a variety of projects to their students. Most of these projects, however, are not directly related to human needs; therefore, suggestions for projects that stress human factors in engineering are welcomed. Through their work with patients, occupational therapists encounter a variety of situa tions where technological innovation plays a role in the solution of problems, many of which would make excellent engineering student projects. In addressing these problems, students gain practical experience in design, the opportunity to work with a variety of people, and the chance to solve the challenges they

Tackling Real World Complexity in a Software Engineering Student Project - An Experience Report
Developing large-scale complex systems in student projects is not common, due to various constraints like available time, student team sizes, or maximal complexity. However, we succeeded to design a project that was of high complexity and comparable to real world projects. The execution of the project and the results were both successful in terms of quality, scope, and student/teacher satisfact...

David Lipson, PhD As a biomedical engineer, one seldom gets the opportunity to help patients return to health in areas in which the magnitude of the need, or the adoption of the approach, is unproven. Returning to my alma mater, Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, in late 2004, I was given the opportunity to coordinate the master of engineering program in biomedical engineering. Teaching st...
متن کاملMechanistic-Empirical Analysis of Asphalt Dynamic Modulus for Rehabilitation Projects in Iran
In the Mechanistic–Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG), dynamic modulus of asphalt mixes is used as one of the input parameters in pavement analysis and design. For in-service pavements, MEPDG method uses a combination of some field and laboratory tests for structural evaluation of asphalt layers in rehabilitation projects. In this study, ten new and rehabilitated in-service asphalt pavemen...
متن کاملA Venture Capital Fund for Undergraduate Engineering Students at Rowan University
All engineering students at Rowan University are required to take the 8-semester Engineering Clinic sequence wherein multidisciplinary student teams engage in semester-long design projects. In addition to projects that are funded by local industry, faculty research grants or departmental budgets, a Venture Capital Fund has been created, which is specifically ear-marked for the development of or...
متن کاملBiologically-Inspired Innovation in Engineering Design: A Cognitive Study
Biologically-inspired design uses analogous biological phenomena to develop solutions for engineering problems. Understanding, learning and practicing this approach to design is challenging because biologists and engineers speak different languages, have different perspectives on design, with different constraints on design problems and different resources for realizing an abstract design. In F...
